League/Team Information
The 495 Babe Ruth League (
495 Babe Ruth) Fall league is designed to focus on improving baseball fundamentals by providing players a learning environment in a loosely competitive game atmosphere. There are two levels of play:
- The Prep Division consists of players who are Babe Ruth league age of 12 and 13.
- The Jr. Babe Division consists of players who are Babe Ruth league age 14, 15, and 16.
The Prep Division consists of players who are younger (12s/13s) and less seasoned big diamond players while the Junior Division consists of older (14s/15s/16s) and more seasoned big diamond players. For Prep teams, emphasis is placed on player development vs winning every game and includes getting accustomed to or more familiar with the larger field as well as concepts the players must learn, such as pitching from the stretch, understanding balk rules, taking leads, stealing bases, positioning, and cut-offs. Towns competing in the 495 League generally include Hudson, Marlborough, Northborough/Southborough (Algonquin), and Westborough.
A Note on Dual Participation
We understand that many players will also be playing for other Fall teams/leagues. Games are scheduled on weekends in an attempt to not conflict with High School or Middle School games although players may occasionally be late from an away game. Players playing on an AAU team are able to play but may have some weekend conflicts. We ask that you coordinate your schedules and communicate with the coaches ahead of games so they can plan accordingly.
Season
Games start early September...likely the week of 9/9. A total of 10 games are planned and will be scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays only during the months of September and October with the exception of Columbus Day weekend. There are no standings kept and no playoffs. Home games will be played in Northborough (Memorial Field) and Southborough (Mooney Field). Games schedules will not be known until early September. Practices will start in early September, but will be coach dependent. Coaches will share season information as soon as possible.
