2023 Spring Girls Softball

The Algonquin Girls Softball Program is dedicated to creating a positive sporting and social environment where the ideals of good sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty and fair play are core, with secondary importance placed on winning. Our goal is for each player to have fun while gaining a rewarding softball experience and developing skills in fast-pitch softball. In 2012 NBSA decided to join with Southborough Softball in mixing teams together at all levels. We have developed this strategy to have the girls join together and play at a younger age because they will inevitably be playing together at Algonquin Regional High School.

The Spring season begins late March and runs through late June including playoffs. Most levels are one practice during the week, one game during the week and one on the weekend. 6u will be clinic style on Sunday mornings with a practice and scrimmage.

It is VERY important to register on time to determine appropriate number of teams, divisions and game schedules. Help from additional adult volunteers is needed and always welcome. We are always looking for coaches and assistant coaches.

Players will need to attend a winter evaluation ONLY if they fall in one of these categories, WILL CHOOSE during registration:
  • Any new or returning players looking to play up a division from the last season they played (spring or fall).
  • i.e. If a 10 year old played 10U in the spring but wants to try and play 12U next year, they should attend evaluation.

DIVISIONS
Our T-ball program introduces the game of baseball to our youngest participants (mostly 4-5 year olds) and focuses on the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Players hit a ball off a batting tee. The primary goals are to have fun, to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork.  Practices and games are combined into a 90 minute session. We anticipate have 8-10 sessions per team starting early May and ending mid-June. Most, if not all, sessions will be on Saturdays and Sundays (sometimes both days of the weekend) and will typically start between noon and 3pm.

Our Minor League program continues to focus on skills development and fun while progressively introducing the kids to a more competitive playing environment. Players from ages 6-11 are organized into 3 levels (A, AA, and AAA) based on age and ability and progressively move through each level as their baseball skills and knowledge of the game develop. The goal of the Minor League is to prepare children for eventual selection to a Major League team.In this structure, players progress from the “A” division, a purely developmental coach-pitch league, through the “AA” division, which introduces kid pitching while continuing to focus heavily on overall skills development, to the “AAA” division, which continues to have a developmental focus while introducing players to game rules that more closely approximate the standard Little League rules that players in the Major League follows.

Our Major League program provides players ages 10-12 with the opportunity to continue their development in a more competitive environment. Teams play a 12-14 game regular season schedule that culminates in an exciting playoff series to crown an eventual town champion.

Our Junior and Senior League programs provide players ages 13-16 the opportunity to continue playing town baseball in a competitive and fun environment against other Southborough teams as well as teams from surrounding communities.
